Painting watercolors that capture nature’s ever-changing imagery.

Joanne Shank, Painter, Hoosier Artist Gallery, Nashville, Indiana

Joanne paints watercolors that capture nature’s ever-changing imagery.

For Joanne, nature has always been her source of inspiration, whether with the colors in abstracts or watercolor paintings of local birds and vegetation.

Her watercolors are influenced by classes taken with several Chinese artists. Joanne explores the fluidity of watercolor and strives to capture the energy of nature's ever-changing imagery.

She uses acrylic paint as a medium for her abstracts and refers to color combinations in nature. With careful manipulation, sometimes only using her hands, Joanne allows the paint to pool and flow, creating natural abstractions. Some of the most exciting areas can be relatively small, so sometimes she photographs and enlarges certain areas creating imaginary landscapes.

Joanne has lived in Bloomington most of her life. She is a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, Bloomington Watercolor Society, and the Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington.
